South Dakota Memories

This page featues paintings I've done of my home state South Dakota and brief explanations of their memories!

PASQUE WILDFLOWERS

South Dakota's state flower is a rare sight. A spring wildflower grows best in untilled soil, at one time seen across the prairie landscape. Now as land is used the flower is becoming a less common sight.

WOODLAND LILY

You may stumble upon this little Woodland Lily anywhere in the central and northern Black Hills.

ANTIQUE CUPOLA

My mothers neighbors, the Dyks, have an incredible whole yard garden of petrified wood. The rusted Cupola and Wagon Wheel is just one of the amazing collection in Platte, SD

GRANDPA'S NEW FISHING BUDDY

Fishing in my family as well as many in the state is a regular past time! My family's favoristes was walley, northerns and trout!

RODEO BARREL RACER

South Dakota's State Sport is RODEO!  I was not a rodeo particpant but enjoyed attending. My family owned horses for awhile. Horses are seen everywhere in S Dak

ABANDONED CAR AND SCHOOL

One room schools dotted the prairie providing education. Old cars and Old lessons.

VIEW FROM THE PILLON

South Dakota is famous for the Sturgis Rally. The ride to the Black Hills provides a scenic vista the entire trip.

BLACK HILLS ELK

This magnificent elk is created in the batik style with watercolor and wax on ginwashi rice paper

PRAIRIE GRASSES #1

Each of the 4 Dakota Prairie Grasslands has a flavor all its own. Prairies are defined as extensive areas of flat or rolling grasslands.

PRAIRIE GRASSES #2

"Anyone can love the mountains, but it takes a Soul to love the prairie." says Willa Cather. After moving away I realized that part of me was there in the prairie.

FORESTBURG MELONS ARE THE BEST

My dad grew up in Forestburg so we able to field pick and eat melons in the field!

MOM'S FAVORITE BOUQUET

My sister and I spent hours making dandelion chains! First sibling to bring her the first dandelion got a quarter!

SEEDS IN THE WIND

Milkweed wasn't a weed to my family! It was the pathway to monarch butterflies!!
